The Simpson County School District is governed by an elected five-member Board of Education. Board members are elected for six-year terms. The Board of Education employs the Superintendent of Education to administer the day-to-day operations and programs of the District.
Regular meetings are scheduled by the Board for receiving reports and updates about District operations and activities, completing duties as required by statute and policy, and adopting policies for the governance of the District.
Regular meetings are conducted on the second Thursday of each month at 4:00 p.m. in the Board Room of the District Office, 111 Education Lane, Mendenhall, MS 39114.
Special meetings are scheduled as necessary by the Board to discuss and act upon urgent matters. Notice of a special meeting, including the purpose, is posted at the District Office, and on the District's website 24 hours in advance.
Executive Sessions
At any Regular or Special meeting, the Board may proceed into Executive Session at which only persons invited by the Board may be present. No adoption of any proposed policy, position, resolution, rule, regulation or formal action occurs at any Executive Session.
Executive Sessions are held for purposes of discussing property purchases or sales, personnel matters (specific), litigation, security matters, investigations regarding misconduct or violations of the law, school board discussion about problems of students, parents, or teachers.
