    SCTC Features Health Science Program

For August, Simpson County Technical Center (SCTC) is proudly showcasing its Health Science 2-year program, led by the dedicated instructor Brenda White. This program is designed to provide students with both the theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary for a career in the health care industry.

Year 1: Health Science Core focuses on introducing students to essential health science concepts. The curriculum covers crucial topics such as workplace safety, infection control, health care systems, and the anatomy of vital organs. Students engage in both theoretical learning and hands-on practice to prepare them for various roles in health science.

Year 2: Health Care and Clinical Services builds on this foundation by offering a deeper dive into the health care field. This course explores advanced topics like human growth and development, health informatics, information technology, and therapeutic and rehabilitative services. Additionally, students study medical and emergency services, mental health, and pharmacological and nursing services.

An exciting component of the program is the opportunity to join Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA), where students can further develop their skills and leadership abilities. Brenda White serves as the HOSA sponsor, supporting students as they engage in this valuable organization.
Currently, students are gaining practical experience in the medical office, learning to perform tasks such as checking vision and hearing, measuring heights and weights, and converting measurements between pounds and kilograms, and inches and centimeters. The accompanying photo shows students positioning clients for physical exams, an important skill for future health care professionals.
SCTC’s Health Science program offers a comprehensive education, preparing students for success in the diverse and rewarding field of health care.
